On The 'Gram : It's Not a Passive Form of Entertainment

In 2025, people treat social media as a quick dopamine hit more than ever. It's the new passive form of entertainment. Instead of turning on the TV to watch the news or a show, the norm is to scroll and get information through short, less than 60 second blips. People like to keep things short, simple, and requiring minimal effort. Social media affords people to view the world at a distance, but I would discourage this way of thinking. Being passive when you're interacting with people (even if it's online) enforces the notion that your voice isn't important, and over time this will become a belief that not only affects you - but also your business. You have to put yourself out there and use your voice - I promise it matters. This is why in most of my content I'm speaking, or at least present in some way. When it comes to business, I treat social media the same way that I would treat real life. I comment on people's photos, like their stories, and interact with other accounts however I can. Putting yourself out there is putting yourself out there, whether you're behind a screen or not. I've noticed some businesses do this, but there are so many that don't have someone putting themselves out there - and I truly believe that these businesses are missing out. Join YBMK, and move away from viewing social media as a passive form of entertainment. Together, let's see it as a tool to unify, share insights, and make waves.

If you're a business, like and comment on other business accounts! Or if you have friends or loyal customers, like or comment on theirs as well! Social media can benefit everyone, but we all have to play our part and treat it like a true social interaction. Plus, in a selfish way, this will benefit you as well. I can't tell you how many times I've spent a longer time looking at a post simply because someone I follow or respect commented on it. I'll find myself reading through the comment section, or even having a new perspective about the post - all because someone took the time to comment. IT MATTERS. Always be positive, though. If you take the time to uplift someone else or their page, it doesn't just help them - it helps you as well.

You might ask how this method will benefit your marketing - which is fair. Good marketing combines being direct, as well as being indirect. Part of being indirect is treating social media like a real interaction. For example, say you have a restaurant. Your business can try just posting pictures of the food you serve - but imagine if you started vlogs, question & answer sessions, and more interactive content. Imagine if you started liking and commenting on your followers' and fellow business owners' posts; tagging them in other posts; even sharing their content to your story. A blend of these things is what makes a truly effective marketing strategy.

This approach of marketing is truly interactive, and in my opinion this is how true digital marketing should be conducted. YBMK conducts our campaigns in this way, and if you're running your own on the 'gram or on any other platform- we hope you absolutely crush it - and we'll definitely be liking and commenting on your content.
