Workday Breaks : My Go-To Recharge Methods For The Work Day
Between managing YBMK and serving as a Marketing Coordinator for CCA Global Partners, I know first hand how important it is during the day to take workday breaks to remain focused and energized. Sitting for long periods of time can leave you feeling tired, lethargic, and unable to focus. Oftentimes, doing simple cognitive resets can make all the difference in productivity. Anyone who knows me is aware that on top of my career in marketing, I'm extremely active and I love to explore. With this in mind, I offer some tips that will get you away from the desk for a bit and allow you to return ready to get to work like never before.
Take A Micro Break and Get Outside
Even if it's just for 10 minutes, the simple act of going outside and walking or sitting down makes a huge difference in mental clarity and wellness at work. Experiencing a shift in scenery leads to creative rejuvenation, and allowing the brain to this valuable reset period can sometimes be the determining factor in properly completing a task. This can be hard in New England with the brutal winters, but I encourage you to put on your coat and go outside - even on the coldest days. When the weather warms, I'll sometimes pick a day at the beginning of the week to go on an excursion, whether it's a simple beach trip or a hike in the White Mountains. Each time, I'm not only more motivated to work in anticipation of the outing, but I'm far more focused when I get back. Personally, when it comes to stress management and burnout prevention I've found the outdoors to be indispensable - and I believe it will make a difference in your life as well.
Implement Healthy Habits And Get Active
There are very few days where I don't either run or lift. Many times, I'll do both. My office at CCA has a gym in the basement with some free weights and cardio equipment, so even if I'm just getting some steps in with an easy incline walk, I make sure to get it in. After getting in physical activity, I feel so much calmer, and my mind is much clearer. Especially when it comes to helping with stress and anxiety - both of which are natural products of having a job - physical activity is a staple of my mental health and ability to do my best work. Even if it's just going on a brisk, 30 minute stroll - I highly encourage you to get up from your desk and get some exercise during the work day. I'm confident you'll learn to love it just as I have.
