Discipline Runs Deep : Why Fitness and Business Go Together
Last weekend, I ran a half marathon in Long Beach, California. (I also had the privilege of shooting some content for my client Wheels N Waves - those videos can be accessed here and here). If you follow YBMK on Instagram and Facebook, you may have noticed that I consistently post content involving working out and being active. Oftentimes, I relate this content to marketing. I'm sure there are people out there who scratch their head and wonder "what does this have to do with YBMK and their services?" Fitness has been a huge part of my life for a long time, and I'm a firm believer in that people do everything the way they do one thing. I work hard for myself, just like I work hard for my clients. In this post, I'd like to discuss my experience running and how it's directly applicable to marketing strategy, implementation and work ethic.
Like marketing, running and fitness require a game plan. First, you have to set goals and then come up with a way to achieve them. I can say first hand that running a long race requires preparation, dedication and consistently - which are all qualities I use every day when working with my clients. It also requires performance in big moments that matter. Leading up to it we encountered several unnerving mishaps (for example - we got stuck in traffic going to the start line, and the bathrooms that were supposed to be open near the start were closed). However, just as I do in tough situations that I encounter in my professional life, I stayed calm and found away around the issues we experienced. In addition, I did not stop until the job was done. Although there were many times I felt like taking a break and running, or just stopping all together - I didn't. I knew that I made a commitment, and as a person of my word I take that with the utmost seriousness. With my clients, this is also true. When I set out to do something or to help someone, I work tirelessly to ensure that whatever I'm obligated to do gets done right.
Ultimately, I love running and fitness because of how they make me feel, but also because of the lessons they've taught and continue to teach me. So - if you ever see me posting fitness content intertwined with marketing, know it's because I take the same values from my physical endeavors and apply them to my professional life to achieve excellent, above and beyond results. Discipline runs deep!
